英語の表現(9)— ‘The milk of human kindness’

When I first came across this expression in the UK, my friends and I were gossiping about someone we knew. One of my friends was quite critical of this person we were gossping about, and said something like the following:

‘She really lacks the milk of human kindness.’

The English definition of this expression is as follows: ordinary kindness and sympathy for other people.
