The graphic file format of the human skeleton ‘Sally’ which I uploaded the other day is something called  ‘SVG’ (Scalable Vector Graphics), and you may need to download the SVG viewer from Adobe site in order to view the skeleton picture properly. Please download the viewer from the Adobe’s site.

看護3年（6月26日）書き取りテストについて

明日は両クラスとも書き取りテストです。2年生の宣誓式の手伝いで欠席する学生は、公欠扱いはできませんので、受験可能なクラスの授業に出席して受けてください。
We will be having a dictation test tomorrow. If some of you cannot make the first period, then please take the test in the second period. This applies to those students who are absent for helping out the second year students for their oathing ceremony rehearsal.

人骨の名称について（Human skeleton）

Last week, our ‘Sally’ (human skeleton) was present in our classroom. We just went through a few expressions related to human skeleton: (1) skull, (2) pelvis, (3) ribs. Go の過去形はどうして Went なのか

大部分の皆さんが、go-went (過去形)-gone (過去分詞形)と中学で学びましたよね。中学生の頃、私も変だなーと思いながら、丸暗記していました。でも、まったく形の異なる動詞が過去形として定着している英語は、「不思議な」言語に思えました。疑問が解決したのは、大学に進んでから、イギリス人の先生に以下の説明を受けたときです。
言語学的に説明すると、goの過去形と過去分詞形は、suppletion （直訳すると「他から転用すること」）という現象でせつめいできるそうです。結論を先に述べると、別の動詞の wend という単語が、goの活用に関っています。つまり、wend-went-went という活用の過去形と過去分詞形がgoの過去形と過去分詞形に収まったという訳なのです。
イギリス人の先生いわく、「こうした現象は、言語学の世界ではそんなに珍しい現象ではない」とのことでした。この、wend という動詞、現代英語では、 wend one’s way （ゆっくりと進む）の形で、文語としてわずかに表現が残っているだけです。日常生活の動詞としては、まず登場してきません。だから、英文学を本格的にやっている人以外には、あまり馴染みのない単語である可能性が大です。
